Cabela's Redfish Series Visits South Padre Island This Weekend
112 anglers traveled to South Texas to wrap up the regular season events for the 2010 season. Although, like tournaments around the nation, numbers of anglers are down from previous years, the 56 team field along with some events bringing in over 90 teams keep the Cabela's Redfish Series the #1 series in Texas for the third year in a row.
All eyes are on the top teams in the Team of the Year Race. The team of Chris Coulter and Mark Otto have held onto the #1 spot for the entire season and if they can hold on for two more events, will travel to Puerto Rico for the Team of the Year prize. The second place team of Recie Tisdale and Judd Johnson are not going to let up on the race. Tisdale and Johnson have a history of high finishes in the Laguna Madre and a win in the championship town of Port Lavaca.
Weigh-in for the South Padre Island tournament will be Saturday, July 24 at Jim's Pier from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Everyone is invited to attend.
Colossal Redfish in Corpus
Corpus Christi, TX - Despite the high winds that howled the week before the tournament and on tournament day, 81 teams came out to battle at the Bluff in the fourth event of the 2010 Cabela's Redfish Series. The weights have grown throughout the season. The top 17 teams had over 15 pounds of redfish.
Good friends and veteran fishing team, Richard Gidrey and Sam Celum of team Evinrude brought in 16.61 pounds to take home the brand new Majek/Evinrude/Coastline boat package valued at over $20,000.00. The duo fished in heavy grass and sand with soft plastics and gold spoons to put together the winning bag.
The team of Mark Otto and Chris Coulter brought in over 15 pounds which was enough weight to hang on to their first place standing in the Team of the Year race.
Cabela's Redfish Series kicks off 2010 Season in Port Aransas
182 Anglers (91 teams) left the docks in Port Aransas this morning for the first tournament of the 2010 Redfish Series. Port Aransas rolled out the red carpet the night before as the anglers were treated to a catered meal by Miss K's Catering.
We welcomed a lot of new teams and also saw a lot of familiar faces. All eyes are on past winners to see if they can pull in the big fish again this year. Kevin Shaw and Jeff Austin are fishing together again this year after competing against each other last year. Other past winners to watch include Jimmie Dooms and Jason Rieger who were our 2005 Champions and are fishing in their home waters. Last year's two-time first place finishers, Gary Harvey and Aaron Loomis, are fishing against each other this year. Our 2009 Majek Team of the Year and Champions, Demetric Wells and Leslie Littles, are fired up to see if they can make it two in a row. With the changing weather pattern, this year is really anyone's game.
Our live weigh-in will begin this afternoon at Robert's Point Park Pavilion in Port Aransas. Everyone is invited to come watch between 2:00-4:00PM. The live weigh-in will be filmed for our TV show which is set to start airing again this fall on Fox Sports SW. We will debut our brand new 32' Tournament Weigh-in trailer.
Come see who will bring the big fish to the scales and take home a brand new Majek boat powered by Evinrude E-Tec.
Redfish Classic Announced for 2010
Simrod Outdoors, founders of the Cabela’s Redfish Series powered by Majek Boats and Evinrude ETEC, has announced a new redfish tournament for 2010. The event is designed to meet the needs of competitive redfish anglers on the coast who are looking for a two-day tournament with a larger payout. The 2010 Cabela’s Redfish Classic powered by Majek/Evinrude will follow the basic rules and regulations of the popular Cabela’s Redfish Series, however, the event will last for two days and the winning team will be determined by the heaviest combined weigh for both days.
The Classic will be held on June 5 and 6 in Port Aransas, TX. This event is open to every angler. Teams do not need to be members of the Redfish Anglers Association to fish the event. Morning boat inspections and take-off will take place in the Port Aransas harbor and the weigh-in will be held at Island Moorings Marina. “We have been going back and fourth for years on having a two-day series with higher entry fees,” said Scot Simmons, one of the founders. "With the way the economy has been, we decided to make this a one-time event this year and see how it goes." The Classic will give plenty of exposure to the participants and their sponsors. The event will be televised on Fox Sports Southwest which has over 9 million subscribers. TV cameras will go out with some of the anglers on both days with the camera crews riding in the top boats on day two.
The format for the tournament includes a live weigh-in with two redfish, artificial lures only and participants are allowed to wade-fish. The entry fee per team is set at $700.00, and one-in-five teams will earn prize money. With 100 teams, first place will receive $20,000.00, second place receives $7,000.00, third place receivies $5,000.00 with twenty teams receiving prize money.

2010 Schedule is Announced
Simrod Outdoors, founders of the Cabela’s Saltwater Series Tournament Trail, is proud to announce the line-up for the 2010 season. The Saltwater Series will host eight premiere fishing tournaments across the Gulf Coast in 2010, with a total purse of more than $350,000 in cash and boats.
The season will start out with the “Battle at the Bluff,” a two-day trout tournament to be held in Corpus Christi, TX February 6th & 7th. The Redfish Series, the number one redfish tournament trail in Texas the last four years, will start off its new season in March in Port Aransas, TX. The series will then head to Louisiana for one of its two stops in the pelican state. “One of the new additions to the 2010 tournament trail is our expansion into Louisiana,” said Jim Elrod, co-owner of the tournament. “We have wanted to expand for a while and with all of our tournaments sold-out for the last two years; we have a need to add more stops to accommodate the high demand of anglers for our series.”
The 2010 series will host six regular season stops and will wrap up the season with a two-day championship. The series will continue its popular Tour Rewards program. Teams who wish to take advantage of the bonus money associated with the tour rewards program will register in advance for at least four regular season tournaments and the championship.
“We’ve created a fun, competitive tournament circuit that’s affordable for the weekend fisherman,” said Scot Simmons who is one of the founders. “The format is fun and laid back and the local stops make it feasible for any angler to fish the tournaments without investing a lot of time and money.”
Format for the tournament also includes a live weigh-in with two redfish, artificial lures only and participants are allowed to wade-fish. The entry fee per team is set at $400.00, and one-in-five teams will earn prize money. Teams may fish as many tournaments as they would like.
The Texas Kayak Series will not hold events in 2010. “We have really enjoyed the Kayak Series and its anglers,” said Simmons. “We are not planning on getting rid of the series; we just need to focus our limited time and efforts on the expansion of the Redfish Series this year. We will also be expanding the Kid’s Series next season. We will announce the locations and format in the near future.”
The Saltwater Series tournament trail is the largest saltwater tournament trail in Texas. The Saltwater Series is produced by Simrod Outdoors, one of the fastest growing production companies for saltwater fishing tournaments targeting the every-day angler. Coverage of the tournaments will be broadcast to 9.5 million subscribers on the Texas Saltwater Series Fishing Show on FSN Southwest (Fox Sports Southwest).
