2010 Redfish SeriesTeam of the Year Prize Announced
This year Simrod Outdoors is proud to offer a new Team of the Year Prize. The 2010 Redfish Series "sponsored by Cabela's and powered by Majek Boats and Evinrude ETEC" Team of the Year will fly to Puerto Rico with hosts Jim Elrod and Scot Simmons for three full days of fishing and fun. Puerto Rico is famous for its year-round tarpon fishery. In addition to tarpon, the waters of Puerto Rico are abundant with bonefish, snook, blue marlin, wahoo, sailfish and dorado. Before the trip, the team will head to Cabela's for a $1,000.00 shopping spree to load up on gear from "The World's Foremost Outfitter." The entire trip will be filmed for the Saltwater Series TV Show on FSN Southwest..
The best redfish teams in Texas rolled into Port Lavaca this weekend to take a shot at winning the most prestigious honor in redfish tournaments, the Cabela’s Redfish Series Champions. Not only was the title on the line, but also a brand new $34,000 Majek/Evinrude boat package.
The last team to be crowned the Redfish Series Champions, Brad Sawyer and Clark Jordan of team Majek Boats, started out strong with a little over 15 pounds on day one. However, the team of Josh Finch and Roy Melnar were not far behind with just a half-pound less. After day one, the top five was separated by only one and a half pounds. On day two several teams had to change their game plans due to a wind change and slack tides. The team of Jordan and Sawyer stuck to their day one pattern even though they only caught four fish on day one, and it paid off with a larger stringer than the previous day. Finch and Melnar brought in big fish to make a run at first place, but it wasn’t quite enough to top the 30 pound two-day weight of Sawyer and Jordan. The Majek team was rewarded with a brand new boat and bragging rights for the next year as the Cabela’s Redfish Series Champions.
The top five was rounded out by the father and son team, Donnie and Levi Price, who after their second full season with the series have become one of the biggest contenders. Taking home fourth place was team Evinrude, Sam Celum and Richard Gidrey, who have had the most wins in the 2010 season. Another Evinrude team, Ed Schumske and Phil Morin, took home fifth place honors by staying close and fishing marsh near Port Lavaca.
Of the 173 teams that fished the 2010 Cabela’s Redfish Series, Team of the Year honors went to Chris Coulter and Mark Otto who held the lead for the majority of the season. Otto and Coulter were rewarded with an all-expense paid trip to Puerto Rico to film episodes of the Cabela’s Saltwater Series TV Show and a $1,000.00 Cabela’s shopping spree.   Over $45,000.00 in cash and prizes was paid out at the Championship.
